Cow Bay Horse Rides - Daintree

Cow Bay Horse Rides offers you the chance to spend an hour or two horse riding at in the Daintree Rainforest. 

Your guide, Prue, will take you through the ancient Daintree Rainforest on a private 300 acre property at Cow Bay. 

Cow Bay Horse Rides are a great way to see the rainforest, taking guests through some beautiful fan palm rainforest, alongside babbling creeks and meandering through wetlands. 

There is a maximum of 4 horses so you are guaranteed an enjoyable & personal experience with Cow Bay Horse Rides.

If you're heading to Cape Tribulation, we strongly recommend Cow Bay Horse Rides as it’s a very special way of seeing the wonderful Daintree Rainforest.

Cow Bay Horse Rides offers a one, one and a half or two hour ride and departs daily. Accommodation transfers are available from Cow Bay to Cape Tribulation.

Times:
Departs 10am and 12 noon

Minimum Age:
From 5 years. Prue will design the tour to suit varying age groups & experience levels. For the young first time riders a Saddle club introduction to horse riding can be organised.

How to Get There from Port Douglas:
Drive through Mossman.  Approx. 25 minutes see a sign FERRY to the right.  From the ferry drive 13 minutes and you see a sign Welcome to Cow Bay.  Stay on the main road and then look for Cow Bay Horse Rides (big yellow sign), on the right, with public telephone box and large turning circle.

What to Bring:
Please wear long pants and flat covered shoes and don't forget the camera!

The Trail:
Depending upon your ability Prue will take you through lush rainforest, and depending on weather you will ride through a prehistoric fan palm forest or along the creek and it is under the oldest canopy in the world.  The gentle lull of the horse and the beautiful surroundings make this a very memorable experience.  

Wildlife You May Encounter:
You may see snakes, many varieties of birds, lizards, the occasional shy cassowary

Our ride was very enjoyable, our horses sweet and cooperative, and the scenery lovely. The proprietor Prue has put a lot of heart and soul into clearing trails through this property for riders' enjoyment - a back breaking task I'm sure. It was lovely to amble through while she shared details of the area, its significance, and pointed out special flora and fauna. On our particular ride, we also waded a bit with the horses in the river, which was fun. We also found Prue to have a very accessible personality, which made it easy to ask general questions about the country altogether, which is nice because getting a chance to chat with 'locals' when traveling doesn't always come easy but it's a great way to learn about a place. At the end of the ride, we were rewarded with an (azure?) king fisher flying across an open field.
