Guurrbi Tours - Aboriginal Rock Art
Visitors to Cooktown now have the rare opportunity to see the Nugal Rock Art sites through the eyes of a traditional owner and to learn why their conservation is so important to the Nugal-Warra people.

This magical award-winning Aboriginal tour with Nugal-warra Elder, Wilfred (Willie) Gordon, is now listed as One of Australia’s Ultimate Must-Do Experiences.

Willie, the traditional story-teller of the Nugal-warra clan, takes guests to his ancestral rock art sites, set high in the hills above Hope Vale, outside Cooktown. Here he shares the stories behind the art, and explains how the cave paintings speak of the essence of life and the lores of his people.

This walk will take you through a dramatic landscape to six different rock art sites, each depicting different aspects of Aboriginal culture and scoiety. You will visit two sites of particular significance to the Nugal-warra people - an ancestral Birth Cave, and the Reconciliation Cave.

With his great smile and infectious laugh, Willie gives an amazing insight into Aboriginal culture and society, and shows how we all have a spiritual place, wherever we come from.
