Cooktown is a sleepy, unspoilt fishing village that brims with tradition, history and scenery. It’s where James Cook came to grief on the reef in 1770, and determined the future of Australia and Australians for ever.
As the Cooktown tour takes you up the Bloomfield track to Cooktwon and back to your accommodation in the Daintree
Your journey takes you to a combination of rustic and natural attractions on the way to Cooktown including The Lion’s Den Hotel at Helensvale which dates back to 1875. You will also visit Grassy Hill and Black Mountain.
The Cooktown Esplanade and wharf areas have lots of interesting historical memorabilia, buildings and beautiful River background.
Your tour includes entry to the James Cook Museum with its special sections on the Cook/Endeavour landing in 1770; its Indigenous section with artefacts, local weapons, history and the all-important reconciliation process: and the significance of the 1873 goldrush days and the Chinese to Cooktown’ development.
Lunch is at your expense, and Mike will provide local options from wraps ($8) to fresh local barramundi &chips (from $10 to $20).
Mike has an excellent knowledge of the Cook history, the scenery and the ecology and will provide you with the information and interaction that you want.
Pick-ups are at 7.00am Cow Bay, 7.30am Cape Trib, with return to Cape Trib around 6.00-6.30 pm.
