Mason's guided walks are about providing a real rainforest wilderness experience. You will be shown real jungle trails, not concrete paths or boardwalks.
Cape Tribulation has some of the oldest, richest and most diverse rainforest in the world. To see it by day is very special, but nothing can compare with experiencing the Daintree Rainforest at night. Wildlife sightings vary enormously from night to night. Only with Mason's can you spot for crocs on foot at night!
Common sightings include:
- Boyds Forest Dragons
- Water Dragons
- Snakes
- Bandicoots
- Frogs
- Native Rodents
- Birds
- and of course Crocodiles or Croc eyes!
Each Nightwalk looks at a variety of habitats from creekbanks to mangroves and goes right inside the rainforest. At least once, everyone will turn all the lights off to really experience the 'dark side of the Daintree'.
The Nightwalk takes about 2.5 hours to complete on private jungle walking trails adjoining the Daintree National Park.
An honest description of the tracks is unimproved. They have been designed to be narrow and winding in order to do as little damage to the forest as possible. Fallen logs sometimes have to be climbed over and small creeks crossed. The ground is uneven due to rocks and tree roots along the way. Basically they are typical jungle trails perhaps resembling an Aboriginal Road that would have existed here before the arrival of Europeans.
This tour operates if it is raining, in fact it is often more fun in the wet! Raincoats and repellant are provided.
Spotting Crocodiles or crocodiles eyes is hit and miss. If you want guaranteed croc sightings we suggest you also do a croc spotting river cruise on the Daintree River.
You will need to pre-book the tour in advance as it takes a maximum of 12 people.
You must have covered shoes suitable for bushwalking to do this tour. NO heels, NO after dinner wear, sneakers boots or real hiking sandals only!
Children under 7 not taken.
Departures:
This tour departs at 8:00pm, returning at 10:30pm approx.
Free Pickups are available from all Cape Tribulation accommodation.
Planning to drive up from Cairns or Port Douglas for this tour? This tour departs from the Masons shop which is located at Cape Tribulation. Cape Tribulation is a 2.5 hour drive from Cairns or 1.5 hours from Port Douglas. Cape Tribulation road has no street lighting and at night time it is difficult to negotiate the road. The tour finishes at 10:30pm and the last ferry goes back across the river at midnight so it is possible but please drive carefully.
