Nature & Culture Package - Daintree

The Daintree rainforest is 135 million years old and home to the spiritual ancestors of the Kuku Yalanji tribe - rainforest Aboriginal people who named this place 'Wawu-karrba'- healing of the spirit. Kuku Yalanji Aboriginal Cultural Guides will take you on activities that are based on interpretation, education and experiential learning.

Rainforest Walk:
The property was occupied by forefathers of the Kuku Yalanji people and used as a resting place as it provided spring water, an abundance of edible and medicinal plants, fauna, bathing holes, protection from harsh weather conditions and is adjacent to the majestic Daintree River.

Join an Aboriginal guide for an easy walk to the property's natural waterfall. Gain a glimpse into the local Kuku Yalanji Aboriginal history, culture, traditions and rainforest life. Learn about the natural environment, how the Aboriginals used & connected with the land & see exotic plants that date back to the pre dinosaur era along with rare & endangered wildlife.

Lunch:
Enjoy lunch with a twist at Julaymba Restaurant & Gallery. The restaurant takes it’s name, Julaymba, from the local Kuku Yalanji word for “Daintree River”, which is the area we are located and a place visited for thousands of years by the Indigenous people of the region.

With it's balcony terrace, Julaymba overlooks the peaceful fresh water lagoon and is accessible via elevated boardwalks through the lush rainforest. It is uniquely crafted to compliment the rainforest setting and capture the serenity of the fresh water stream flowing beneath. Authentic Aboriginal artefacts and original artworks are on display in the Art Gallery.

With nature integrated into every aspect of the resort, native ingredients, some collected on the property, are used to create sensational signature meals and featuring light and healthy spa cuisine for the guest who enjoys delicious meals in line with good health and wellness. The menu incorporates an abundance of unique and exotic sundrenched Queensland fruits, tropical reef fish and local produce with native and Indigenous nuts, berries, flowers, leaves and seeds.

Interactive Aboriginal Art Workshop:
Take part in an authentic Aboriginal art & cultural workshop. Learn from an Indigenous teacher the history,tradition & culture of the Kuku Yalanji people, while you paint your own Aboriginal inspired artwork. All materials supplied.
