Day One: Journey to the Daintree Rainforest, check into Crocodylus
The Daintree rainforest is situated an easy 2-hour drive north of Cairns along one of the most beautiful coastal roads in the world. The Cook Highway north of Port Douglas offers beautiful scenery ranging from secluded palm fringed tropical beaches, hidden coves and rugged headlands to the rich green of lush sugar-cane fields and rainforest covered mountains.
Connecting the southern and northern Daintree regions is one of Australia’s last remaining car ferries, which operates across the Daintree River every day from dawn until late at night. The journey is an experience in itself.
On arrival at Crocodylus a giant strangler fig tree provides a dramatic centrepiece to the village. This unique hostel is situated at Cow Bay which adjoins the Baileys Creek section of Cape Tribulation National Park.
On arrival, you will be given an orientation talk and provided with maps and directions of the local area.
There are swimming holes, isolated beaches and many places of interest within walking distance of Crocodylus. Being in an isolated area, Crocodylus generates its own electricity. The resort is powered by generators, which run 24 hours per day. You may wish to bring a flashlight with you for night walks in the rainforest.
The rainforest canopy remains undisturbed, as the safari tent style accommodation huts have been delicately built up off the ground and spaced out amongst the dense tropical rainforest. From the comfort of your hut you can feel part of the rainforest, listening to and watching the wildlife of the forest. The Jungle Restaurant serves fabulous large home style meals. Start the day with a cooked breakfast, muesli or a special pancake.
An orientation will be carried out at Crocodylus prior to trip departure the following day. The tour commences at 7.30am and arrives back on the beach the following day at 5pm.
Day Two: Snapper Island Sea Kayak
Snapper Island National Park is situated 2 kilometres from the mouth of the Daintree River, in Tropical North Queensland, Australia. The island is uninhabited, filled with tropical rainforest and surrounded by magnificent coral reef and white sandy beaches.
You will paddle a very stable, 7 metre surveyed kayak from the mainland to Snapper Island. The fully equipped rescue boat and experienced guide will accompany you though your journey. When you arrive at Snapper Island, you will have this whole unspoilt tropical island to yourselves. Kayak, snorkel, walk, sleep, read, eat, drink, laugh, learn, laze, bask. Take as much or as little as you please. Accommodation on the island is camping on the beach.
Day Three: Snapper Island Sea Kayak Return
Very easy to wake up to - a true room with a view. A dining area will be set up on the beach and all your meals will be prepared for you whilst you are exploring this fabulous island.
Return to Crocodylus at approx 5pm.
Day Four: Check out from Crocodylus and take time to explore the Daintree area further, add on extra nights (please enquire for rates) or enjoy the return journey back to Cairns.
PLEASE NOTE:
This package does not transfers from Cairns or meals other than those stated. You can start this package any day of the week provided there is availability, however the Sea Kayaking departs Monday, Wednesday and Fridays only, and is subject to weather conditions.
This package is based on two people, please enquire for an extra person rate. Minimum age approx 8 years old, flexible depending on child. On booking please advise if you have any medical history or dietary requirements that the tour operator should prepare for.
Other packages can be tailored to suit your needs. Please ask one of our friendly consulatants for further details...
